In terms of expectations there's:
- What knowledge is expected from you?
- What knowledge is expected in your field?
In the build up to the examiners report:
- Do you have adequate knowledge in field of study
- Is there independent critical ability
- Is there a distinct contribution to knowledge
- Are they competent in methods of recording research
- do they demonstrate ability in writing style and presentation
TO TAKE AWAY:
- Before meetings:
- Create an agenda, share it in advance
- Send drafts well in advance
- Agree draft standards with supervisor (as in, how done should it be?)
- Flag areas of concern
- After Meetings:
- Look back at agenda
- Clarify points of confusion
- Write down action points
- Agree action points with supervisor
- Work out realistic schedule
Writing Days:
Set SMART Goals
- Have reading sessions
- Have writing sessions
- Have notes sections
Use Pomodoro Also record how each sessions make you feel
Assessing Writing
-
There's process and product writing
-
The process draft is not about communicating at all,
- its the first time you've attempted to record those thoughts
-
it's not necessarily about communicating those thoughts
-
So rather than taking first draft and trying to edit it into one pice that works
- Instead your first draft is just for you and what you know right now
- just get the ideas on the page
- then highlight the good bits
