High Risk Surgical Patients

Paediatric Intubation

Tube Size

Cuffed if more than 3kgs

Cuffed = (Age/4)+4 Uncuffed = (Age/4)+3.5

Oral Length = (Age/2)+12

Drugs

Keeping it simple, drugs for intubating critically ill child:

  • 1micro/kg Fentanil
  • 1-2mg/kg Ketamine
  • 1mg/kg Rocuronium

In other words, do the same as you would do for adults with these drugs!

Emergency Drugs

  • 1micro/kg Adrenaline for hypotension
  • 10micro/kg Adrenaline for cardiac arrest
  • 600micro/kg Atropine for bradycardia
  • 10ml/kg fluid bolus
