Mass Casualty Incidents - The 2005 London Bombings
This was the largest mass casualty incident in UK since Second World War 1
In the 2005 set up they split the ICM consultants into resus, theatre, and the unit. 1
They had one senior nurse and one registrar keeping track of which patients were where, and what injuries they had. 1
There were 7 patients admitted to ICU all post op. They all needed subsequent surgery. 1
They recommend intensivists should be part of making the disaster planning teams. And help with cooperation between hospitals and other emergency teams. 1
They pointed out that the triage numbers assigned at scene didn't work well with existing hospital numbers. 1
The major incident seems to focus on the prehospital and the ED phase, and doesn't acknowledge that the rest of the hospital may still be v busy when stood down. 1
