True / False
Hyperkalaemia may occur Correct

Explanation
Spironolactone is available as an oral preparation diuretic.
It is a competitive aldosterone antagonist. By inhibiting aldosterone, sodium influx or potassium excretion is prevented, thus having the potential to cause hyponatraemia and hyperkalaemia.
Its diuretic action makes it ideal for treating ascites of chronic liver disease and it is also licensed for chronic heart failure. Due to its chemical structure it has anti-androgen side effects leading to gynaecomastia.
